How it works
Wikipedia defines arbitrage betting as:

Arbitrage betting is a theoretically risk-free betting system in which every outcome of an event is bet upon so that a known profit will be made by the bettor upon completion of the event, regardless of the outcome. – Wikipedia

Yep, you read correctly, "known profit will be made by the bettor….regardless of the outcome".

Now up until a few years a go, you would have to have physically visited several different bookies to See what odds they offered on a game. You would have to spend hours searching through odds and working out mathematical equations to see if you could make a profit or not.

Thankfully with the internet, it is a lot easier to find odds and place bets. However, this also means it is a lot easier for bookies to see what odds other bookies are offering, which means fewer arbitrage bets (also known as arbs). Even if you do come across a set of odds that look profitable, you still need to use a mathematical equation to find out if the arb is profitable.
